Steps to Become a Volunteer

There are two choices for training.  One is to train from the convenience of your home through bookwork and videos.  The second option will contain some video training followed by tax law training in a classroom.  All classroom training will be held at the Chester County Intermediate Unit located in Downingtown on Saturday, January 8th and will run from 9am to 5pm with lunch provided.

After completing training, there will be an optional practice session held at the Chester County Intermediate Unit in Downingtown on Saturday, January 22nd.  You will be able to come and go as your schedule permits between the hours of 9 am to 5 pm.  There will be practice intake sessions, and/or returns to help you get more comfortable with the return preparation process.  Instructors will be available for guidance, questions, and help.

Once you have taken the training, and are certified, you will receive instructions on how to sign up for your volunteer hours.

Our sites will open January 31, 2022 and run through April 15, 2022.  We currently have seven sites to choose from located in Coatesville, Downingtown, Exton, Phoenixville, Pottstown, Royersford and West Chester.  Our classes will get you fully trained and certified in the use of our IRS provided tax software.  You will be able to choose your volunteer times for as little or a much as you wish.  There is always a time that will fit your schedule as our shifts are in 2, 4, and 5 hour increments and are available during the day, evening and on weekends.

Registration for training is required whether you will be attending classroom presentations or wish to study fully at home.  Register by clicking on the registration link at the bottom of the page.  Once registered you will receive further instructions.

Thank you in advance for your volunteer time!
